Car Painting & Panel Beating in Whangarei

Kamo Panel & Paint Ltd. has been operating since 1977 in it’s Colenso Street location, repairing and painting cars and trucks for locals as well as restoration and woodgraining from all over the country and overseas (England and Germany). For variety we also repair heavy equipment such as diggers and rollers, not to mention vintage tractors and hearses. We have also painted boats and planes at our Colenso Street premises.

Our small team of Denis, Willy and Judy will supply you with free quotes for damage or rust repairs. When doing rust repairs we only do it one way - the affected area is cut out and a new metal patch is made and welded in. We have all the old machinery and skills to remanufacture panels which is a necessity when doing restoration work. Our panelbeater Willy did his apprenticeship with us and was taught the old skills by an experienced qualified panelbeater and coach builder.

Denis’s woodgraining (making metal look like wood) is a feature of some older cars for interior trim panels and there are very few people practising this skill now. The same with genuine coachlining of cars (using a special brush and done freehand). Both these skills were taught to Denis during his car painting apprenticeship. Whether it’s an insurance repair or WOF rust work, or just a private job to tidy up your car we can help.

1939 Chevrolet restoration and panel repairs

1939 Chevrolet which we restored in 1991 – 23 years ago – which was brought along by its new owner to a Classic & Sports Car Club event recently. This was a full restoration including panel repairs using lead and a full repaint with 20 coats of lacquer. Pleased to see the car is still looking good!
